Computer Engineer & Computer Scientist
From curiosity to creation - and back again.
"If I don't understand it yet, I'll figure it out - then build something with it"
I'm Gina - a Computer Engineer and aspiring Data Scientist based in Seattle. I love building things that feel alive: from embedded sensors that listen to the earth, to ML models that see patterns in cities.
Currently pursuing dual degrees at Seattle University, I love researching new things and creating something based on what I learn.
Collaborating within a 5-student interdisciplinary team (3 Computer Science, 2 Computer Engineering) and 2 professors to develop an ML model for spatial soil moisture estimation in areas without physical sensor coverage. Building 2-inch embedded ground sensors to collect validation data for supervised model training and calibration. Developing a dashboard to display packets from deployed sensors and visualize 1,000+ data points via a graph.
ML · Embedded Systems · DashboardCollaborated in a 5-student interdisciplinary team (3 CS and 2 biology) and 2 professors to develop web-based biology simulations for classroom instruction using Python, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Managed source control and collaborative workflows using GitHub and VSCode.
Full-Stack · Biology · SimulationPerformed hardware repairs and software maintenance at and for various schools within the district. Trained and managed other interns, delegating tasks and ensuring efficient operations. Provided technical support for staff and students via phone and in-person troubleshooting.
Hardware · IT Support · Team LeadCapstone project: working in a 4-member multidisciplinary team (1 Computer, 1 Electrical, 2 Mechanical) to design and build a terrain-traversing rover using ML-based path optimization. Uses Arduino for real-time signal processing with RPLiDAR integration and NVIDIA Jetson Nano for onboard computation.
Analyzed historical Seattle Police Department crime data to investigate correlations between crime type, time, and location. Trained Random Forest, Naïve Bayes, and KNN models on 1,000,000+ records to predict neighborhood locations from partial crime reports. Insights aimed at supporting faster emergency response.
Developed a simulation demonstrating the BB84 quantum key distribution protocol. Visualized quantum state preparation, measurement, basis reconciliation, and key agreement processes. Illustrated the effects of eavesdropping on key agreement using protocol-level behavior.
Developed a website condensing and organizing Seattle University resources for disabilities, abuse, finances, and general health to provide students with fast access and ease of use. Utilized a database to create a review system where students could leave comments and experiences with specific resources.
Developed a web-based application to transpose song chords into any key - a handy tool for musicians and songwriters.
Built C++ simulations with error handling, priority queues, heaps, recursion, and tree balancing. Implemented sorting algorithms (Bubble, Merge, Heap, Quick) and graph traversal (BST, DFS). Created a COVID-19 Data Tracker using a hash table to process over 2M WHO data entries.
Member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), PCB (Printed Circuit Board) Club, Girls Who Code, IEEE, and IEEE-HKN.
Interested in Data Communication Networks, AI, Machine Learning, Embedded Systems, and Cloud Computing.
